Skeete, Williams seal 400m qualification
GUYANA’S golden boy Daniel Williams sealed his U-20 200m and 400m qualifications for the CARIFTA Games on Sunday. He achieved these at the National Track and Field Centre (NTFC), Leonora, when the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) hosted their second trial meet.

Williams bettered his 200m time from a week ago at the first trial meet by running 21 seconds flat way under the CARIFTA Standard of 21.60s.
In that race he dispatched his nearest competitor by some distance winning comfortably/ His competitor was Tyrell Peters who crossed the finish line in 22.02s, while third place went to Brian Roman who clocked 22.05s.
Meanwhile, Williams ensured that he booked his spot in the 400m at CARIFTA running 48.35s well under the qualifying standard of 48.50s. In that race Williams was followed to the finish line by Brian Roman who came in way behind with a time of 49.59s and Shemar Garraway who stopped the clock at 52.31s.
Also making the CARIFTA 400m qualification standard was Deshanna Skeete in the Girls’ U-17 category, she ran 56.95s, just under the standard of 57s flat.
Coming in second was Shantae George who clocked 57.80s and in third was Keliza Smith who crossed the line in 57.88s.
Long jumper Anthony Williams bettered his 7.10m jump from last weekend increasing that to 7.14m and he was joined by Lindener Tremain Browne who leapt some 7.07m to join Williams in the top-two bracket of Boys’ U-20 long jumpers.
The CARIFTA Games is being hosted by the Bahamas in Nassau this year and will run from March 30 to April 2.
Guyana’s contingent to the Bahamas will comprise the top two athletes in each respective event in the different age categories.
The next CARIFTA Trial meet will be held on Sunday at the same venue.
