THE children of the community of Moblissa who attend schools in Linden will no longer have to wait hours for transportation. On Monday, the Regional Democratic Council Region 10, handed over a 19-seater bus valued at $5M, to the Community Development Council Chairman of Moblissa.

The vehicle which was donated by the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs will be used to transport the children living in Moblissa to and from the schools in Linden.
Regional Chairman of Region 10, Rennis Morian remarked that it is a “fulfillment of the government’s plan to bring help and support to communities. This bus was presented to the people of Moblissa through the RDC here, in Region 10, for it to be used to support education.”

The Regional Education Officer, Region 10, Marcia Andrews highlighted that the children of Moblissa would have suffered for a long period of time due to a lack of transportation to and from Linden. However, she is extremely happy for the children because they will now be able to reach to school on time. “We know if they get to school on time it will give them an opportunity to optimise their performance in school.”
Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC) in Moblissa, Arthur Reynolds thanked the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs for being timely in their gesture. “Education is at the forefront of the drive for this good life that we expect in Guyana and so we are more than thankful,” he said.

Coleen Williams, a resident of Moblissa, told this newspaper that she is happy for the bus since in the past, the children have had to walk miles to get transportation to attend school. “For couple years now we talking and talking about transportation for the children, cause these children walk like three to five miles, so we are very much thankful for that.” Williams has a child who attends the Linden Foundation Secondary School and will benefit from the initiative.
