GUYANA Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) stands ready to partner with the Oil and Gas Industry, according to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Nedd when he spoke at the just concluded Guyana International Petroleum Business Summit & Exhibition (GIPEX).

“Our beautiful Guyana is on the precipice of an exciting new era, as an impressive array of the world’s leading energy companies develops its offshore oil & gas fields and marches toward production. As with any large infrastructure development activity, a sustained investment of capital and expertise will be critical in making these projects a success,” Nedd said while extending a hand of partnership.

Pointing out that GTT has pioneered many firsts in Guyana such as the modernisation of basic telecommunications, the nationwide launch of cellular services, the first high-speed broadband network, the deployment of LTE-based fixed wireless services, and the submarine cable that serves as the lifeblood of internet connectivity for the country, Nedd committed the company to even greater and better initiative.

In 2017, GTT had also launched the nation’s first fibre-to-the-home network, adding to the advanced and secure fibre-based services that it currently provides to businesses.
The CEO further pointed out that the company has invested over US$150M in the development of communications infrastructure and advanced communications & information services in the last 10 years alone. Additionally, as the historically leading private employer and tax payer to the Guyana Government, GTT has been a consistent and positive force in the local economy for economic development. Nedd said the company is a strong partner to the Government and the private sector, and is committed to “Do More” for its customers, so that they can do more in their businesses and personal lives.

“Of note for the oil & gas companies attending GIPEX, the GTT subsea cable is an impressive example of this commitment. Built in 2010, the subsea cable currently carries 100 per cent of the nation’s business and private communications traffic that legally transits the nation’s borders, with plenty of additional capacity to spare. Since its inception, GTT has continued to invest in the cable to expand its initial capacity 50-fold (5000 per cent), and is committed to continuing to invest in and expand cable capacity to accommodate the nation’s growing communications traffic. Through access to other subsea and terrestrial cable holdings and partnerships, GTT also provides the diverse redundant fibre paths that ensure always-on connectivity,” he explained.

For on-shore needs, he posited that GTT is also Guyana’s leading provider of advanced connectivity and information solutions. He posited that companies like Troy Resources have been partnering with GTT to receive much-needed telecommunication services.
“As Troy Resources developed new gold fields, they needed a partner to invest alongside them in building infrastructure to support the new local operations. GTT made that commitment, building new towers, connecting them to its advanced fibre network with high capacity microware links, and with ongoing network monitoring & management to ensure high availability. GTT moved with speed and strong technical competence, allowing Troy Resources to quickly realize its plans for new development,” he stated.

Nedd added that “whether it is through the local technical experts that comprise its workforce, or drawing on the best global resources to which GTT also has access, GTT has been steadfast in its commitment to its clients, and the company will bring this commitment to each and every one of its oil & gas partners.”
He said GTT is also committed to Do More for the communities it serves. In recognition of the ongoing technical and investment leadership of GTT in the Guyanese information and communications technology sector, as well as the company’s extensive philanthropic investment programme, GTT was awarded the 2017 “Large Business of the Year” honor by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

GTT also received the 2017 “Corporate Citizenship Award of the Year” for the “Pinktober” initiative, which raised over GY$4 million to help raise Breast Cancer Awareness in association with the Guyana Cancer Foundation.
Nedd posited that the role of Platinum sponsor at GIPEX is but one example of GTT’s enthusiasm for the important work that the oil & gas companies are doing in Guyana.
“As the oil & gas industry deploys its financial, technical and business resources for the important tasks that lay ahead, know that there is a reliable partner in GTT who is also ready to invest alongside of you to ensure your success. You have our commitment to Do More in serving as the preferred local communications and information technology partner to the oil & gas industry,” Nedd told those gathered.
