THREE Brazilian men have been arrested following a robbery committed on the business in Lethem of one of their fellow countrymen on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the robbery was executed at around 15:00hrs on Michael’s Jewellery and Cell Phone Shop owned by Dwaine Grant, a businessman of Bon Fin, Brazil and which is located on Barrack Retreat and Kanuku Drive, in Lethem. The bandits reportedly carted off with a quantity of cellphones, watches and gold jewellery.
Enquiries disclosed that the three males who spoke Portuguese, went into the business place and tied the hand of Grant’s reputed wife, Maxine Buckley, who is also a businesswoman of Bon Fin, Brazil. The bandits who proceeded to pack the above-mentioned items in a black haversack, then put what appeared to be a gun to the woman’s head and demanded the key for her husband’s car.
Having found the key, the bandits entered the car which was parked in front of the shop.
According to the Police, as the bandits tried to drive off with the car instead of reversing they drove forward and crashed into the wall of the shop. An alarm was raised and Police in the area responded promptly arrested the three male Brazilians. They are currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Police are said to be combing an area in an effort to locate the bag containing the articles which were allegedly stolen.
