WITH just a few hours before the Guyana Boxing Board of Control/NexGen Global Marketing six-fight boxing card gets underway, local boxers and their respective opponents from Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela and Barbados have issued threats to each other.

This make for some interesting fights that is scheduled to start at 19:00hrs at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall this evening.

Speaking to the media at the pre-fight press conference at the Giftland Mall yesterday, Guyana’s Shawn Corbin predicted that he will stop his Trinidad opponent Sheldon Lawrence in six rounds in their light heavyweight 12-round fight for the World Boxing Council’s FEACOBOX title.

However, Lawrence stated that Corbin’s prediction will be reversed, since he will be the one ending the fight within the distance.

Lawrence said he knows Corbin very well and knows also how he fights and this will be to his advantage.

Lawrence’s manager, Buxo Putts of Trinidad informed that Corbin is not only a Guyanese, “he is a Trinidadian too, I managed him while he was living, training and fighting out of Trinidad and I want to believe that he is seeing upside-down, as he might be seeing nine in Lawrence’s favour and taking it for six” Putts said.

Corbin interrupted stating “nobody comes to my home and beat me.”

Like Corbin, Gonsalves who will engage Venezuela’s Felipe Barcelo in a 10-round lightweight contest said he does not see the fight going past four rounds, but admitted that his Venezuelan opponent is a solid fighter.

Barcelo for his part said he is here to fight and used the opportunity to urge the Guyanese public to come out in their numbers and support the card which will be an exciting one.

Guyana’s United States based Guyanese Elton, `The Bully Dharry who will be fighting Venezuela’s Jesus Garcia said he is in excellent condition and rearing to go.

The WBC FEACOBOX and Inter-Continental bantamweight champion said he is aware that barcelo is a solid fighter who faced some very tough opponents during his career, but he (Dharry) is not worried as he is sure he will prevail.

The main bout on the six-fight card is a flyweight contest over 10 rounds and will see Guyana’s Dexter `De Kid’ Marques tackling Venezuela’s Dionis Martinez Arias.

While Arias was present at yesterday’s pre-fight press conference, Marques was absent due to him having to put in some extra road work, one day before fight time, in order to make his weight and like Marques, Guyana’s Sherwin Clarke was also on the road, seeking to lose some weight for his heavyweight debut against James Moore.

The other fight on the night’s card will see Anson Green (Guyana facing Barbados’ Keithland King in a junior middleweight bout.
