Constable, suspect injure heads in fight

A CITY constable was injured after a Tiger Bay vendor, who is wanted for questioning in connection with assault and simple larceny tried to take away his service weapon during a scuffle on Robb Street, Georgetown, Saturday morning.
The vendor, who was beaten by the constable after he was arrested, was identified as 34-year-old Marlon Fredricks.

Reports indicate that the constable who is stationed at City Constabulary headquarters, was on patrol when he saw the vendor who was wanted for questioning on King Street, Georgetown.

Upon recognising the constable, the vendor allegedly ran and the patrol vehicle gave chase and caught the vendor on Robb Street, where a scuffle ensued.
In the vicinity of Colours Boutique, the vendor tried to take away the constable’s 9mm pistol that was in his right side pants pocket.

As a result, the pistol discharged a round and minutes after police on patrol intervened and rendered assistance, subduing Fredricks.
The constable and the vendor were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where they were treated for head injuries. An investigation is under way.
