Wins for Number 70 Spartans and the Number 72 All Star

NUMBER 70 Spartans and the Number 72 All Star are the latest teams to have recorded victories when the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA)-sponsored Roy Baijnauth T20 competition continued recently in Berbice.

At the Number 72 All Star ground, the hosts defeated their opponents Bomb Squad by 46 runs. Batting first, All Star scored 129-7 with Sanjay Deochand 26, M. Bhoj 24 and Demetri Cameron 21 being the main contributors.
Bowling for Bomb Squad, P. Gobin, D Pooran and R. Mohammed did most of the damage with figures of 4-19, 2-20 and 1-24 respectively.

In reply, the Bomb Squad batsmen were bowled out for 83 in their allotted overs. Only batsman P. Luen managed to secure double figures, with 23. W. Garnett took 4-15, Demetri Cameron 2-21, S. Gobin 2-16 and P. Chatterpaul 1-2, did the damage.
At the Number 70 ground, Spartans defeated Guns & Roses by four wickets, and in the process moved to the next round.

Batting first, Guns & Roses scored 116 all out with Saheed Rohoman 30, Neaz Ali 35 and Brandon Mohan 16 being the solid batsmen. Bowling for the Number 70 Spartans, M. Deochand claimed 4-18, T. Ramotar 2-20, N Yacoob 2-20 and O. Kumar 1-17.

In reply, Number 70 Spartans scored 118-6 in 17.3 overs. Tameshwar Ramotar scored 36, Akash Persaud 34, Taresh Ramgolam 23 and Chris Bollers 19 – all contributing meaningfully with the bat. Omesh Mathura 2-20, T. Baichan 1-16 and D. Ramroop 1-14 were the successful bowlers.

At a simple ceremony after the games, both teams thanked the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association for the timely execution of the competition.
President of the UCCA, Hamant Jagdeo, thanked the teams for the discipline shown throughout the game.

The competition will continue on Sunday January 14 at venues across the Upper Corentyne area.
