A BRAZILIAN was on Wednesday refused bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.

It is alleged that on November 7 at Back Street Ghetto, Tabatinga, Lethem, Joao Figerio had a 20-gauge shotgun cartridge in his possession when he was not a licensed firearm holder.

With the help of an interpreter, the defendant pleaded not guilty. The 23-year-old construction worker explained to the court that he came to Guyana to visit his mother in Lethem.

The unrepresented man was remanded until December 5th when his matter will be called again at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
