POLICE ‘A’ and ‘D’ division commanders accompanied by ranks of their divisions on Wednesday visited the Georgetown Public Hospital to check up on their colleagues who were recently injured in the line of duty. Commander of ‘A’ Division, Assistant Commissioner Marlon Chapman visited Police Constable 22770 Wilfred France to enquire of his well-being and have an update on the state of his recovery from a gunshot wound he sustained.

Constable France was injured on Tuesday while trying to apprehend a robbery suspect at Leopold and Breda Streets, Charlestown, Georgetown.

While chasing the robber, his colleague, who was in pursuit, stumbled onto the ground, resulting in his M70 rifle firing off a round which hit Constable France in the arm.
Assistant Commissioner Chapman said the visit was to ensure that the rank was receiving the best medical care and that he was responding to  treatment.

Commander Leslie James visited Woman Constable 23464 Shanice Fraser who was shot several times about the body by her lover, Police Constable 22834 Clement Cockfield, who went berserk at the La Grange Police Station.

Constable Cockfield later turned the gun on himself. Assistant Commissioner James said a church service was held Wednesday in the compound of the La Grange Police Station where the incident occurred.

He said Pastor Derek Anderson of the Cops and Faith Network, along with other police ranks after the conclusion of the service, paid a visit to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they met and offered words of comfort to Constable Fraser.
