Gayle, Pollard turned down Pakistan tour – reports claim

WINDIES batting star Chris Gayle was reportedly among six players that turned down the invitation to play for the regional team in a three-match T20 tour originally scheduled for Pakistan later this month.

According to report the tour will be postponed due to smog which currently affects the city of Lahore, but some also players pointed to a commitment to the upcoming Bangladesh T20 tournament and continued to voice security concerns despite the successful Sri Lanka T20 vs World XI game, which was played at the Gaddafi Stadium last month.

The Asian country has desperately sought to get cricket back on local soil as the country has been blacklisted as venue following a 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team. In fact, the Windies had been scheduled to tour Pakistan in two T20 matches in March of this year, but the matches were called off as the players and West Indies Players Association (WIPA) voiced security concerns regarding the tour.

While several players seemed to have been more willing to give the Lahore tour a chance this time around reports indicate that Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo were not among them.
