A CENTRAL Lethem resident is expected to be charged today for the death of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Lance Corporal (L/cpl), Devon Fraser, who was struck down along the Lethem Public Road recently.
The suspect, 39-year-old Elroy Pedro, who is due to appear in the Georgetown Magistrates Court will be represented by Attorney-at-law Jerome Khan.
According to reports, at about 02:20 hrs on October 18, the deceased while in the company of another, was walking along the corner of the roadway in the vicinity of Camp Kanuku, (the GDF Base in Lethem), when a speeding CG motorcycle [number unknown] collided with him from behind.
As a result of the impact, Fraser and the cyclist received injuries about their bodies. They were both taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital where Fraser was pronounced dead on arrival and the motor cyclist was admitted a patient.
The motor cyclist was tested and found to be above the legal limit of alcohol.
The now dead soldier was in Lethem as a member of the Military Band which provided musical accompaniment for the just-concluded activities, in observance of Lethem attaining township status.
