HUNDREDS of Glasgow residents made their way to the Multi-Purpose Community Centre Ground to view who would have been crowned the new “Miss East Bank Berbice” queen on last Sunday.

The night’s activities began at 18:00 hours with a concert, followed by the Junior Pageant

which featured the little princesses on the stage to give the audience their first look at their adorable dresses. The senior pageant began shortly after.
Like any other pageant the pageant saw the delegates showcasing their talent in a talent segment and thereafter showcasing their beauty in casual and evening wear. However, the organisers explained to the Pepperpot Magazine that the event was also staged with the intention of celebrating the rich culture of the Glasgow Community, while providing an opportunity to empower young girls in the community.

The six delegates who vied for the coveted crown in the senior category, had been working for the last three months to perfect their skills for the pageant. During the question and answer segment, which ultimately was the deciding factor as to who will wear the crown, saw the young contestants taking to the stage and each asked a question pertaining to their platform.
The answer given by the respective delegates to their specific question was testimony that they each had done an excellent job at researching the topics they had embraced as their platform. And, while the judges deliberated the audience was given a last glimpse of the contestants in their evening wear as a group.

Then, finally it was the moment everyone was waiting for, with Tiffany Caesar of Edinburgh Village being adjudged the winner and being crowned Miss East Bank, Berbice. The queen whose platform focused on ending domestic violence in her community, said that she took on the platform of domestic violence as a service of helping women, who are victims of such circumstances. Her aim is to execute major services and projects in targetted the communities on the East Bank of Berbice. Copping the First runner-up position was Alikea Cort, with Tenisha Taylor getting the nod as Second runner-up, followed by Tonisha Rose, Sarafeina Adonis and Stacy Samgollam, taking up the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Speaking with Pepperpot Magazine, the pageant coordinator, Karen France, congratulated the winners even as she noted that each of the contestants gave a good representation of themselves, and therefore, should consider themselves all as winners in their own right. Alluding to the role the queen is expected to undertake during her reign, France said she should an excellent role model to other young women in the communities, and too, willing to work hard to execute community services, as well as, seek to promote the development of the new Housing Scheme.

The pageant dubbed the largest community event in the new housing scheme was one of the main three events on the East Bank of Berbice. President of the Glasgow Development Association, Terrence Cummings, awarded all the winners with certificates and prizes. In addition to her prizes, the senior queen has also earned the right to wear her tiara and sash at all important functions throughout her reign. Meanwhile, individuals in the community who contributed in a meaningful way were presented with certificates as a token of appreciation.

The gifts and prizes were sponsored by Director of Health Services in Berbice, Mr. Stephen; Regional Educational Officer, Region Six, Miss Kim Stephen; Promoter of the Annual Car and Bike Show, Mr. Andrew France; Commander `B’ Division, Mr. Paul William and the Pageant Coordinator.
The pageant was emceed by Sharon Trim who did an excellent job in keeping the crowd entertained and informed throughout the evening.
