.. Berbice and Bartica play to 2-2 stalemate

By Joe Chapman
WEST Demerara upset Georgetown 1-0 with a shocking strike from David Blake as early as the third minute to remain unbeaten in Group B, but likewise, after two matches Berbice and Bartica remained winless with a 2-2 stalemate, as the Upper Demerara-organised GT Beer Super Sunday Night Inter Association Football Championship continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground last Sunday.

By virtue of that win, West Demerara is the only unbeaten association in that draw of the tournament and most likely will advance as one of two teams moving to the final four, which will go into a break to facilitate work on the tournament venue for the Boyce and Jefford VIII Athletics Classic set for August 12 and 13.
West Demerara through a first-half goal secured an important win, and like hosts Upper Demerara are on six points from two wins with a game in hand.

However, the other result of the night did revive hopes of the city boys making it to the semi-finals from Group B as the other game between Berbice and Bartica ended 2-2, as both teams now have one loss and a draw.
It was the boys from the Ancient County who netted the first goal in the 6th minute through Graham Thomas but Shaquille Hopkinson squared things for the Bartica side when he scored in the 20th minute.

With the game balanced the first half ended with Berbice taking control as Stephon Boucher found the back of the net in the 28th minute which gave them a 2-1 lead at lemon time.
Not to be outdone however, after play resumed, Bartica sought to level things and did so just before the game ended as Aloysious Edwards would find the equaliser in the 89th minute and earn his side their first point from this 2-2 draw.
