A 24-year-old West Berbice cyclist lost his life on Monday night last after he was struck from behind by a Tacoma Jeep while he was cycling along the West Berbice Highway, at Lovely Lass Village.
The accident occurred at around 8pm and Keyfa Raphael Campbell, a carpenter of Number 29 Village, also on the Corentyne, was rushed to the Fort Wellington Cottage Hospital where he received emergency treatment before being transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was however pronounced dead on arrival.
His older sister, Patricia Bacchus, told the Chronicle that Campbell popularly known as “Done Dance” had cycled to her home some distance east of Number 29, earlier in the evening to collect a SIM card which she had promised and had bought for him.
He collected the card and was on his way home on his bicycle when he met his demise. “He was a carpenter; a hard working young man and always of a pleasant disposition,” his grieving sister said.
Campbell has left to mourn six sisters one brother and his parents Beverly and Ray Halley. Meanwhile the driver of the Tacoma vehicle GPP 4166 who is said to be a Trinidadian national was up to late yesterday afternoon assisting the Police with their investigations into the fatal occurrence.
