Time to isolate the “Bad Johns” in the prison system

Dear Editor,
THE reports coming from the authorities clearly show that there are some real bad hombres among the prisoners, especially at the Lusignan “holding” area. I have followed these reports which include the slaughtering of animals and open- air bar-b que, the attempt to burn down the Lusignan Prison and the violence of gangs against each other.
It is easy to say that crimes are caused by economic circumstances, but the crimes INSIDE prisons are calculated and planned to bring destruction and death. It is a miracle that not one prisoner died in the inferno at the Camp Street jail and the fire that razed the officers’ club. That 1000 plus prisoners emerged alive is a credit to our prison and security personnel, who need our encouragement and appreciation.
I suggest that the authorities quickly separate the ‘Bad Johns’ from the rest of the prison population and isolate them. The entire nation needs to support Minister Ramjattan, the Police Commissioner, thePrison chief and others now!
