Pork-knocker shot at Omai Landing

–after attacking police with ‘chopper’

A TWENTY-seven year old pork-knocker was on Sunday shot by the police after reportedly attacking two armed ranks with a “chopper”.
The incident occurred at around 16:45hrs at Omai Landing, when Glenn McCardy of Half Mile, Wismar, in a bid to avoid being arrested for the cannabis he had in his possession, attacked the two policemen.

He was taken to the Mackenzie Public Hospital where he underwent surgery. He is currently stable and under police guard.
Investigations revealed that the policemen, who were on duty at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC)’s Omai location, confronted McCardy at the Omai Landing after receiving information that he was in possession of an undisclosed quantity of narcotics in a bulky haversack he was carrying.

The policemen reported that as they approached McCardy, he drew the “chopper” from his haversack and menacingly charged towards them.
In defense, he was shot once in the abdomen and subsequently disarmed. During a search of his person, a quantity of dried cannabis was found in the haversack.
A probe into the incident has since been launched.
