`Big Guns’ arrive for GCF’s National Road Race championships slated for today

THE arrival in Guyana of some of the country’s leading cyclists two days ago has sent tongues wagging as the Guyana Cycling Federation’s (GCF) National Road Race Championships is slated for today and choosing a winner would be a difficult task.
Shaquille Agard, Hamza Eastman, Andrew Hicks and Geron Williams all arrived in Guyana two days ago and will join the other U.S. based Guyanese, Paul DeNobrega and Raynauth `Obeahman’ Jeffrey, as well as French Guiana based Orville Hinds and Michael Anthony, for today’s 103-mile event which wheels off at 08:00hrs from Homestretch Avenue.

These overseas based riders will be joined by over 20 locally based riders who, over the past two to three months, have been showing tremendous form.
The defending champion of the event is Continental cyclist, Geron Williams, who also rides for Team Foundation of the United States. As was mentioned recently, it is left to be seen if Williams will be able to acclimatise for today’s event, as is the case with the other overseas based cyclists who arrived just two days ago.

DeNobrega and Jeffrey returned home more than one week ago and so they should have already acclimatised for today’s grueling event which this year will cover a greater distance than in previous years.
The overseas based riders will be coming up against a host of riders who have been in good nick recently, such as: Jamal John, Walter Grant-Stuart, Alonzo Ambrose, Mario King, and Romello Crawford.
