A FREAK storm late Wednesday afternoon dislocated the roof of a house at Oronoque Drive, Retrieve, Linden, while creating havoc in homes along the same street.
Homes located in Yuraballi Street were also destroyed. One of the homes made of zinc was almost completely destroyed.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that during the storm, occupants of the home at Oronoque Drive were in the upper flat of the building but no one was hurt.
“One of the children was sleeping on the bottom bunk of the bed, while the other one was in a corner and that is how nothing in happen to them,” one neighbour explained.
Some residents now have to do major repairs, while others have to do minor work on their homes. Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland visited the residents on Thursday to bring comfort to them and to render assistance needed.

While Linden has not been experiencing floods, the May- June rains coupled with strong winds, thunder and lightning have been taking a toll on properties in the mining town. Only last week, the property of a Richmond Hill resident was completely destroyed, while an entire street in Amelia’s Ward was briefly plunged into blackout after heavy rains and wind knocked out the electrical wires attached to a transformer in the street. Fortunately, the Linden Utility Company Incorporated responded quickly and electricity was restored.
The regional authorities are monitoring the situation and the Regional Democratic Council has embarked on disaster risk management programmes for 2017.
