DYNAMIC Airlines has enlisted 25 Guyanese flight attendants to serve its various destinations worldwide, even as its local partner Roraima Airways celebrates 25 years in the airline business.
Newly selected flight attendant Kinnia Edmondson, speaking on behalf of the group, said their employment is a dream come through and they are all thankful to Roraima and Dynamic Air for the opportunity they consider once in a lifetime.

“We have all yearned for the career as flight attendants and appreciate the efforts of Roraima through its partnership with Dynamic for making our dream a reality… We will seek to make Guyana and Guyanese proud by taking full advantage of these opportunities by giving our best and by dedicating ourselves to giving the highest levels of customer service to all the passengers we serve,” she said during a press conference at Roraima Duke Lodge, yesterday.
Along with Edmondson, those scheduled to depart Guyana for the US tomorrow to begin training are Abigail Mohabir, Ariel Fiedtkou, Ashley Morgan, Bibi Mohamed, Collis Campbell, Damien Munroe, Deborah Sullivan, Diana Juan, Ereika D’Andrade, Griselda Persaud, Ishana Shiwratan, Jenneil Carmichael, Josonia Hermonstine, Kevin Culley, Kevin Bhagrat, Lorraine Vandeyar, Maria Stevens, Meenaksha Baljit, Nadia De Costa, Nikita Hintzen, Sasha Gouveia, Satocia Pierre, Juan Nurse and Secon John.

Roraima Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Captain Gerald Gouveia, sees it as a major investment in Guyana’s human resources.
“The creation of jobs for young Guyanese everyday should be an obsession with every Guyanese leader,” he said.

Gouveia indicated that the new move by Dynamics and Roraima Airways is one which shows that the two companies are committed to serving the Guyana market with dedication and efficiency.

STABILISE PRICES
“When Delta Airlines left Guyana many years ago, the ticket prices moved from US$700 to US$1700 for an economy fare… and when Dynamic entered this market we were able for the last three and a half years to stabilise those prices, and we are very pleased to contribute to the number of Guyanese living in the diaspora the affordability to come back to Guyana. People cannot afford to come to Guyana with very high prices and ticket prices are very, very vital for us,” Gouveia noted.

He said the flight attendants have been selected after a long tedious process.
“I believe that we have the cream of the crop here today… a lot is at stake… you will be ambassadors for Guyana and all your training, all your preparations of your life, this is now the threshold of your own life and you could decide to take full advantage of it or you could decide to waste it,” he told the new batch.
Gouveia said thousands of US dollars have been invested and the new recruits should recognise the opportunity and apply themselves, not taking it for granted.

SERIOUS JOB
He said though the job is a glamorous one which allows opportunity for travelling, it calls for serious commitment.
“You have to be working when other people are sleeping, you’ll be working on Christmas Day, on your mother’s birthday, on your father’s birthday and your children’s birthday and unfortunately when you choose to be in the travel and tourism business, you work when other people are taking vacations, you work when other people are travelling to come with their family. You have to leave your families behind and serve the passenger… and you have to take it seriously,” Gouveia said.
Meanwhile, Roraima Chief Operations Officer, Captain Leary Barclay, said the new move by Dynamic International Airways is evidence of its commitment to the Guyanese market.

“Not only by operating the flights and taking our money (but) by tangible commitments to Guyanese professionals… I dare say no other airline than our former own Guyana Airways has been able to provide this amount of human resource training in what is a high-end profession in the airline (industry) than Dynamic Airways has done.”
The company started in 1992 with proprietors Captain Gerry Gouveia and Debbie Gouveia and two other staff. Now the company employs approximately 300 young Guyanese.

“The Roraima/ Dynamic partnership has so far trained 31 flight attendants and these additional 25 will take the total number to 56. These flight attendants will operate the Guyana / New York route and also destinations with China and other destinations in South America as Dynamic International Airways operates a diverse selection of routes around the world,” Barclay said.

Last year Dynamic transported 80,000 passengers in 224 flights on the New York/Georgetown route. In 2017 so far, it has already had 100 flights and moved approximately 35,000 passengers, with a 95 per cent on time departure this year.

Dynamic Chief Pilot, Captain Gary Carlton, said the international airline is committed to serving the Guyana route and charged the new flight attendants to pay keen attention to safety in the airline industry.
