FOR a number of days since the Sussex Street Canal was cleaned, slush and garbage from the canal has remained on the parapets, causing Mayor Patricia Chase-Green to summon City Engineer, Colvern Venture to have it removed.

The mayor referred to the unsightliness caused by the situation when she was addressing city councillors at a recent statutory meeting. She also noted that it did not auger well for citizens of the area between St. Stephens Street and Cemetery Road.

The City Engineer, in response, said that the works were done by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and that Minister David Patterson has since undertaken to speak with his engineers to have the ‘spoils’ removed.

Venture disclosed that during his telephone conversation with the minister, he also raised the issue of other works being done in Georgetown that the City Council is not aware of.

The situation has also resulted in a narrowing of the Sussex Street road, resulting in difficulties for both motorists and pedestrians.
