A MAN guarding a sluice box was chopped to death in the wee hours of Saturday morning at BK Old Road Backdam, Potaro River. This is the 11th murder in the region.
Dead is Damon Scipio, 56, called “Rastaman”, a miner of Moco Moco Village, Central Rupununi.

Homicide detectives are making stringent efforts to quickly apprehend a co-worker, who is the prime suspect for the murder.
Public Relations Officer of the GPF,Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, said the murder occurred between 23:00hrs Friday night and 06:00hrs Saturday morning.

He said investigations so far have revealed that the victim who was employed by a small-scale mining company at 111 miles Madhia, was performing duties at the company’s watch camp, guarding a sluice box with two gold mats, when he was fatally chopped three times to his head and once to his left wrist.. The gold mats were taken away.
