DEAD: Brian Charles Yearwood

THE two suspects in custody in relation to the murder of Brian Charles Yearwood, 16, of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, have been formally charged with murder and are scheduled to appear before a magistrate today.
This was confirmed yesterday by Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan.
On Friday, the police were granted permission to keep the two suspects in custody. It is alleged that one of the suspects, a 17-year-old believed to be a school dropout, is the one who dealt Yearwood the fatal stab in the region of the heart during a school concert on April 29, 2017. The other suspect is reportedly a 20-year-old.
The police have since recovered a knife, which they believe is the murder weapon. Yearwood, after being stabbed, was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, but it was too late as he was pronounced dead on arrival. His distraught mother, Beverly Yearwood, told this newspaper that it was only last September that her son, who previously had attended Central High, was transferred to the Covent Garden Secondary.
The mother of five said she is puzzled as to what could have caused the older teen to react the way he did, as her son was not known to be a trouble-maker. She had never received a bad report about him, she said; he was independent, hardworking and even helped around the house without having to be told, and without any fuss.
