IN keeping with the Guyana Police Force’s “Social Crime Prevention Programme”, the Byderabo Police Youth Group hosted a Family Fun day and Football Competition recently at the Byderabo Beach, Bartica, Region Seven.
The trophies were donated by Commander ‘F’ Division, Senior Superintendent Ravindradat Budhram whilst community members donated the cash incentives.
Commander Budhram said the fun day featured a number of events which included: a seven-a-side female softball cricket competition; a five-a-side small goal football competition, and a Bar-B-Que.
The teams comprised members from the Itaballi Police Youth Group, Byderabo Police Youth Group and Foul Mouth Under-15 Football Team.
The teams competed for trophies and cash prizes. The Itaballi Female Cricket Team which won the competition, was awarded a cash prize of $14,000. Foul Mouth Football Team was awarded $10,000 and a trophy as the winning football team; Byderabo Police Youth Group received a trophy for second place in the football competition and Brandon Metolezer, a member of the Foul Mouth Under-15 Football Team won a trophy for the Most Valuable Player.
The objective of the initiative was to bring together members of the Police Youth Groups and their families from across the region (Region Seven) to analyze the development of their skills by way of competition as well as to acquaint themselves with each other. Members of the public applauded the initiative.
This initiative is expected to continue on a yearly basis as a strategy for developing stronger relationships with members of the public and the police in order to create safer communities through social crime prevention programmes.
