TEAM Guyana for the first leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship yesterday officially loaded their cars for the three-week journey to the Land of Wood and Water.
The team, including three cars and four bikes, will head to Jamaica for the first round of the Championship, with several big names missing.
However, Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) president Rameez Mohammed contended that those cars and bikes are more than capable of doing Guyana proud.
“We feel that those guys who are going (to Jamaica) are capable of flying the Guyana flag high and ensuring that we make a good start to the 2017 championship as well as gaining valuable points.”
He continued, “The team may not have the big names of the past, but there are guys who are no strangers to the podium, and we are confident that they will do well.”
Of the three cars packed under team Guyana’s banner, two belong to Rameez Mohammed, who will ply his trade in Groups 2, 3 and 4 (two-wheel drive), while the third car loaded belongs to Nasrudeen Mohammed who will compete in Group Two.

All hands! The Team Mohamed’s Enterprise bike is crated and loaded for shipping to Jamwest.

Guyana have always been strongest in the bike sector and this time around, it’s no different, with five bikes being loaded.
The recently established Team Mohamed’s Enterprise will ship one bike to be ridden by Bryce Prince along with seasoned campaigners Steven Vieira and Kevin Persaud.
Additionally, John Bennett and Heemand Boodram complete the five-member team, expected to fly the Golden Arrowhead.
Trinidad are the defending Country Champions with the Group 4 all-wheel drive champion being Jamaican Doug Gore, who is expected to start his title fight on home soil.
At the two-wheel end of things, Mark Maloney is the defending champion, with Paul Vieira of Trinidad and Tobago, who also packed yesterday, expected to defend his Group three title.
The Group 2 title is being held by Mark Thompson of Barbados with the Superstock championship race ending last year with Guyanese Matthew Vieira ahead on points.
The first round is billed for May 21 at the Jamwest Raceway in Jamaica.
