AFTER a night of limited goals action, Melanie B emerged champions of the East Coast leg of the Colours/Guinness Greatest of the Streets Football challenge at the Haslington tarmac on Monday evening.
A twelfth-minute strike from Amoniki Rogers made the difference for the Melanie B side that gifted them their spot in the regional tournament later this year.
The battle got more heated after the goal, with the Plaisance side looking for an equaliser, coming close on several occasions but never managing that decisive strike to turn the game in their favour.

Several powerful efforts in the dying minutes had the Plaisance fans on their toes with cheers but the rebounding effort off the goal quickly deflated them – the referee’s whistle marking the start of a party that carried on well into the night.
In the earlier third-place playoff Buxton Diamond managed to stave off the defending champions BV-B also by a 1-0 margin thanks to Kevon Assaye in the 3rd minute.
The eventual winners got through the semi-final on penalties 2-0 over Melanie B after the game ended in a goalless stalemate. Plaisance B secured their spot via a 1-0 margin against Buxton Diamond thanks to Vincent Thomas 34th.

The winning team will take home $250 000 and the championship trophy, along with the right to represent the East Coast in the national playoffs, while second-, third- and fourth-placed teams receive $150 000, $100 000 and $50 000 respectively.
