A TAILOR was released on $75,000 bail by City Magistrate, Fabayo Azore after he was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Lionel Douglas, 56, of Durban Street, Lodge, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 11, 2017, at his residence, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on his friend, Tendu Johnson.
This newspaper understands that the victim was not present in court since he had undergone surgery for a broken arm.
Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne strongly objected to Douglas being released on bail, based on the seriousness of the charge.
The court heard that Douglas and Johnson are friends and on the day in question Johnson went the man’s home and enquired about the $50,000 the defendant owned him.
An argument ensued which escalated, resulting in a scuffle between the men and causing Johnson to receive injuries. However, in court Douglas denied owing the victim money and alleged that Johnson “tripped” and behaved bad.
Magistrate Azore overruled the prosecution’s objection and granted bail to Douglas. He will return to court on April 26, 2017.
