$13k in fake U.S. currency lands woman in court

CITY Magistrate, Fabayo Azore, on Wednesday released a 33-year-old Plaisance, East Coast Demerara resident on $75,000 bail after she was charged with uttering fake U.S. currency.

Samantha DeSouza pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that between March 1 and March 25, 2017, in Georgetown, with intent to defraud, she uttered to Abby Manu $13,000 in U.S. currency knowing same to be counterfeit.
According to the prosecution, the woman knew that the money was counterfeit but still used it to purchase clothes in the store. She was arrested shortly after the store owner discovered that the money was indeed fake.
Magistrate Azore, with no objection from the prosecution, released DeSouza on $75,000 bail and adjourned the matter until April 19, 2017.
