WESTERN Tigers cleared all doubts Saturday night as to their resurgence in local football when they tore through the Guyana Police Force 1-0 in the finals of the Limacol Round Robin/Knockout Football tournament on Saturday evening.

The Tigers were in no cuddle mood as they employed the smash and grab method to overpower their Georgetown Rivals in front of a large crowd at the GFC ground,Bourda.
It took a Collin Nelson strike to put them ahead and while they never looked back, there were a few scares for the eventual winners, the closest of which came when a goal mouth effort was missed entirely.
Nonetheless, the coach of the Western Tigers, Calvin ‘Flu man’ Allen says he was confident of winning the title long before the finals.
“I knew it from about two weeks ago, really. The effort, the enthusiasm, the team spirit on the training ground; its beautiful. Hubert Pedro, Collin Nelson, Devon Millington. Those guys came and made an immediate impact,” the coach added.

Discipline and commitment,Allen noted, were the pillars of the Western Tigers team throughout the tournament as they carried out each of their functions with distinction.
Allen stated, “It feels damn good to tell the truth; the guys worked hard for it. They gave me everything they had, the extra effort and everything was there and I really appreciate the effort of the guys. Moreso,we had a clean sheet and that’s what we wanted to do tonight.”
In the third place playoff, the Winners Connection side won 5-3 on penalties after drawing 2-2 during normal and extra time against Santos.

Keon Sears’ 27th minute goal coupled with Cedrick Hunte’s 85th min strike helped Winners cancel out Orin Yarde and Keith Caines 77th min and 85th min strike for the third place trophy.
