THE Guyana Water Inc on January 26, 2017, dispatched a team to the Aishalton sub-district area, Region Nine, where a total of 18 Life Saver Jerrycans were distributed to communities that had recently been affected by an outbreak of Gastro.

These villages included: Shea, Maruranau, Awarewanau and Aishalton Shea Village. At the first village, Shea, the team was greeted by the Deputy Tashao Mr. Frances Rafino, Village Councilor Mr. Guy Rodrigues, Primary School Principal, Miss Vilma Caitan; Nursery School Principal, Miss Dolores Rodrigues and workers from the ‘hot meal’ department.

A demonstration on how to use the Life Saver Jerrycans was executed by Mr Mark Jeffrey along with an explanation of its usefulness. After a brief consultation with the village leaders, a decision was made to distribute Life Saver Jerrycans to selective facilities in the villages such as; the Schools (both Nursery and Primary) and the hot meal centre, where water is being consumed on a regular basis.

The Life Saver Jerrycans were distributed as follows; one for the Nursery School, two for the Primary School and one for the Hot meal centre.
At the other villages, Maruranau, Awarewauna and Aishalton, similar demonstrative activities were carried out before the filters were distributed. Upon receipt of the filters, the Villagers expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by GWI.
