DESPITE literally no competition, Youth Athlete of the Year, Chintoba Bright, did well in her long jump and triple jumps at the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Age Group Championships last Saturday, where Linden’s Compton Caesar and Guyana Defence Force’s Kenisha Phillips picked up sprint doubles, at the Leonora National Track and Field Centre.Bright, a CARIFTA Games double bronze medallist, continued in fine form to clear 5.84m in the girls 15 – 17 long jump. The South American Youth Championship bronze medallist also went on to clear 11.79m in the triple jump event.
Phillips sprinted away with the sprint double in the girls’ 15 – 17 category. Phillips had the best female 100m and 200m timings for the days, cutting across the finishing line in just 12.23 seconds in the 100m, beating out Christianburg’s Onasha Rogers (12.29s) and Super Upcoming Runner’s Cassie Small (12.30s)

The Schools Nationals record holder had a time of 24.73 seconds in the 200m, in which Skeete picked up a second-place finish in a time of 25.08 seconds.
Skeete got her time to shine in the 400m, which she completed in 59.39 seconds for the win. Joanna Archer picked up the 800m win in a time of 2:25.10s, and was shortly followed by Kezra Murray (2:26.40s). Running Brave’s Claudrice McKoy took the 1500m win in 4:50.52s.
Caesar took 10.52 seconds to clinch the boys’ 18 and over 100m win, just ahead of the 10.92 seconds from the Guyana Police Force’s Kevin Abbensetts.
In the 200m, it was GPF’s Winston Dummett who had to settle for second place behind Caesar. Caesar clocked 21.65 seconds to Dummett’s 22.33 seconds.
South American Youth Championship silver medallist, Daniel Williams, ruled the boys’ 15 – 17 400m in 50.41 seconds and took another gold in the high jump, where he cleared 1.90m. Dummett won the boys’ 18 and over 400m in 50.02 seconds.
In the middle distance, Anfernee Headecker picked up the boys’ 18 and over gold with a time of 1:55.70s,while Samuel Lynch took third in 2:02.50s.
Men’s javelin national record holder, Leslain Baird, took the men’s javelin win with 66.30m.
