MAHAICA Determinators and Den Amstel produced contrasting wins over their respective opponents when the Limacol round robin knockout football tournament continued at the Victoria ground on Saturday night.Mahaica produced the goods needed to break the deadlock and secure their win against the Georgetown based Camptown 3-2 while Den Amstel decimated their Ann’s Grove opponents 4-1.
In the first game, the Mahaica team knew they needed only a draw to progress but pushed for the win, knowing that any 1-0 margin would give them the top spot in group D.
And they found their first goal in the 16th minute through a Neil Lynton strike. They did not back off however as they found goal number two through Lynton in the 36th.
Camptown however, were not out of the fight yet, netting their first of the game two minutes into the injury period of the first half through Joel Juman and returning with that momentum in the 63rd to level the game through Andy Parks
It would take Devon Harris’ 75th minute intervention to secure the much needed win for the Mahaica side and in the process take them into the lead in group D, knocking Police down to the second spot.

In game two, it was an utter decimation by the West Bank Demerara side Den Amstel, as they ran rampant over Ann’s Grove.

A double each from Delon Lanferman (1st and 6th) and Gideon Payne (45th and 90th+2) outshone the lone Phillip Williams (76th) minute strike to surge ahead of the rest of Group C

Santos would finish second in that group.

Meanwhile, the final two spots in groups A and B were to be confirmed last evening at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
