(SKYSPORTS) – Virat Kohli struck his fourth Test double-hundred in as many series as India took full control on day two of their one-off Test against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.Kohli’s superb innings of 204 set a new Test record, with the Indian skipper – who has now notched double-tons against the West Indies, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh in the past seven months – surpassing Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid, who got beyond 200 in three successive series.
Wriddhiman Saha also cracked an unbeaten 106 as India eventually declared on 687-6 in their first innings, before reducing Bangladesh to 41-1 by stumps.
Resuming the day on 111, with India 356-3, Kohli wasted little time in extending the hosts’ stranglehold on the game, adding a further 121 runs with Ajinkya Rahane (82) in the morning session.
The pair ultimately extended their fourth-wicket partnership to 222 runs before Rahane was caught brilliantly at cover by a diving Mehedi Hasan off the bowling of left-arm spinner, Taijul Islam (3-156).
Kohli kept his cool and kicked on through to his double-hundred, although he was given out lbw to Mehedi on 180 but successfully reviewed the decision.
Saha too was fortunate to survive a missed stumping chance when on only four, before Bangladesh finally claimed a fifth wicket, Kohli’s stunning knock coming to a close as he was trapped in front of his stumps by Taijul.
Ravichandran Ashwin added a brisk 34, before Ravindra Jadeja smashed an unbeaten 60 and Saha brought up his hundred.
The declaration came soon after, and a demoralised Bangladesh were forced to bat out the final 14 overs of the day.
Having seen out the opening 11 of those, Soumya Sarkar (15) was then dismissed by Umesh Yadav – given out caught behind after a review – to leave the visitors 41-1 at the close.
