THE Guyana Badminton Association’s annual GUMDAC Open Doubles tournament concluded last Friday night with the presentation of prizes,which was held at the National Gymnasium. The tournament was played between February 1 and 3.
The highlight of the evening was the Men’s Doubles finals, where National and Caribbean Champion, Priyanna Ramdhani teamed up with Avinash Odit to compete in the event.

The duo took the top men’s pair of Nicholas Ali and Jonathan Mangra to a three-setter. They lost the first game: 21-14, but came back to win the second: 21-19. However, they lost the third game: 21-13.

In the Open Mixed Doubles finals, Priyanna Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra defeated Nicholas Ali and Greer Jackson: 21-17, 21-15.

In the Ladies Doubles finals,Priyanna Ramdhani and Greer Jackson defeated Pricilla Moore and Angelica Holder.

Meanwhile, other matches played during the evening saw Marlon Chung and Ronald Chang Yuen defeating Gokarn Ramdhani and Javid Rahaman: 21-16, 21-19, in the Open Men’s Doubles third place playoffs.

In the Open Ladies Doubles round-robin segment; Priyanna Ramdhani and Greer Jackson defeated Angelica Holder and Pricilla Moore: 21-9, 21-10, while Angelica Holder and Pricilla Moore defeated Ayanna Wickham-Watson and Emelia Ramdhani: 21-17, 21-12, while Ronald Chang Yuen and Pricilla Moore defeated Avinash Odit and Angelica Holder: 21-13, 17-21, 17-21 in the Open Mixed Doubles third place playoffs.

A release from the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) indicated that plans are on stream for the Mash tournament later this month.

The presentation of prizes was done by GUMDAC Managing Director Mr. Darrell Carpenay,who has been sponsoring the tournament for the last five years.
