Age ain’t nothing but a number!

How to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Newsflash: now, you’ve heard it before on several advertisements splattered across TV screens, on social media, in magazines, and in the newspaper “this product will reduce the signs of aging” the ridiculousness is real. I’ve heard many clients complain that their expensive bottles of fancy advanced skincare anti-wrinkle creams. They say “this product does not work” or in typical Guyanese fashion “I ain’t able with that.”

It’s imperative that you understand, the reason why companies can’t claim “this product will remove your sorrows and wrinkles quickly and efficiently” is because it can’t. Wrinkles are not going anywhere, pores cannot disappear into thin air, your skin won’t magically be smooth youthful and perfect by simply massaging expensive products in an upward circular motion.

The best time to start an anti-aging skin care regime is actually at a young age…13!
However, it’s never too late…the good news is: you’re older, wiser, discipline, and developed the right attitude and character to maintain and manage a good skincare regime.
Assessing the ingredients and deciphering the instructions on product labels, is frustrating at times, but patience is a necessary characteristic to possess.

Skin Prep
First off, your skincare routine should include a generous amount of moisturizer. After you’ve cleansed and exfoliated, it’s easier to disguise discoloration, aged spots, and broken capillaries.

It’s always best to be gentle and pat lightly when applying cosmetics to your face. Keeping skin supple and smooth is essential for mature skin. Moisturizer hydrates skin, plumps it up to make fine lines and wrinkles appear less prominent.
Moisturizer also sets the tone for the makeup being applied. And can act as the perfect primer for foundation.

Avoid using any foundation primers. Foundation primers will minimize pores, which is helpful but causes a matte look that will appear too cakey making the skin look deh, cracked and older in appearance. Instead, allow an emollient moisturizer to do the work, and give the skin a dewy fresh and youthful appearance.

Foundation
Anything that’s dry and cake-like in appearance should be avoided by all means necessary for aged skin. The best way to avoid looking older is to use shimmering light, mousse textured products and liquid makeup.
For foundations, try mousse textured foundations, or it’s always best to use liquid foundations. If you choose cream or stick foundations, ensure that you blend it well. To do so, warm it up using your fingers deposit product into the palm of your hands and mix product to a more fluid viscosity. Using damp sponge gently blend product into skin with stippling motion, dabbing, bouncing and lightly pressing the sponge onto skin.

Pro Tip: Makeup sponges should always be used wet. Latex sponges, the ones typically found in drugstores like the wedge sponges, isn’t as porous as he non-latex ones. There’s a new line of non porous sponges called the silicone sponge, that too should be avoided. The entire purpose of the sponge is to absorb excess makeup, which is why a more permeable texture is conducive for blending, giving the sponge and the makeup alike, a smoother, softer, youthful appearance.

Powders
As we grow older our skin loses elasticity. When using powders on thin skin, it’s always best to do the complete opposite of the foundation process. Whether it be, setting powders, compact powders, or loose powders a brush is your best friend. Apply powders with a fluffy, soft, synthetic powder brush, natural haired brushes, are also good for powders, but nano technology allows for microfibers and synthetic hairs t be thinner and softer. This allows for too many product to be applied, thus achieving a smooth natural look.

Highlighters
Highlighters are coming in any hue, there are rainbow highlighters, et al. Shimmer is one of the best ways to disguise fine lines, since it deflects light. And highlighters have just the right balance of both matte tones and light-reflecting shimmer to rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. It’s best to place shimmery highlighters under the eyes and above the cheek bones.
