ATTORNEY General, Basil Williams has chided the various bar associations for ignoring the fact that he was forced to respond to a feral blast against him by the Deputy Solicitor General and again accused her of undermining government cases she had been charged with handling. In a terse press statement responding to calls for his removal from office by attorney, Adrian Anamayah who is also a member of the Berbice Bar Association, the AG asked where was he when the former Attorney General Mr Anil Mohabir Nandlall confessed to a taped conversation in which he issued threats to injure the staff of Kaieteur News which, according to the Kaieteur News publication dated November 2, 2014, was a part of a direct orchestrated design to shut down the newspaper in the year 2014. Additionally, the AG reminded Anamayah of the former AG’s alleged unlawful taking away of the Law Books from the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General Chambers valuing approximately 3M and his admitting to unlawfully taking over $7M from the Government coffers which he claimed he repaid. Nandlall had said that he was authorized to take the books by former President Donald Ramotar.
“The Honourable Attorney General was forced to respond after the Deputy Solicitor General went into a public feral blast against him, which as a public officer she cannot lawfully do. The Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General Chambers notes the condonation of the acts of the Deputy Solicitor General by the bar associations without making any attempts to ascertain the true facts, whilst ignoring the rebuttal of the Honourable Attorney General that she has been undermining the Government cases,” his statement ended.
