Teen boy stabbed by cop

A FOURTEEN-year- old boy, David Peters, is presently battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was allegedly stabbed to his stomach by a police officer on Friday afternoon. Reports are that the lad, who hails from Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD), had visited a well-known store in his village to purchase bicycle parts when the incident took place.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that around 13:00hrs on Friday, the young police rank, who is attached to the Operations Room at the Brickdam Police Station, was also in the vicinity of the store when he came into contact with the teenager.
According to witnesses, the duo began to argue over their sisters, and it is unclear at this point who issued the first verbal jab. However, the policeman subsequently drew a knife which was on his person and stabbed the 14-year-old just below his navel (belly button).
Persons who witnessed the incident telephoned the Mahaica Police Station to report the matter and also to offer assistance to the injured boy. He was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital then transferred to the GPHC for emergency treatment due to the extremity of his wound. Meanwhile, police ranks from the Mahaica Police Station are said to have arrived promptly at the crime scene and arrested the alleged perpetrator.

The Guyana Chronicle was told by a police source that the alleged assailant ,who lives in Hope village, ECD, is currently in police custody at the Tactical Service Unit (TSU), Eve Leary, Georgetown.

The source also stated that the boy is “in a serious condition, but is presently stable.”

A family friend of the injured youth told the Guyana Chronicle that he is scheduled to undergo minor surgery within the next 24 hours to ascertain that there was no rupture to any of his vital organs.
