…say wrong man was gunned down

THE relatives of an arcade vendor who was gunned down in ‘Warlock,’ East Ruimveldt, Thursday night, are adamant that it was a case of mistaken identity and that the dead man’s cousin might have been the intended target.Dead is 30 year-old Andrew Fraser known as “Zeggy,” a Water Street Arcade vendor of 565 East Ruimveldt. The other man, who was injured during the shooting, was identified as 26-year-old Junior Abrams. Reports indicate that occupants of a heavily tinted vehicle opened fire on the two men resulting in one being killed and the other injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the shooting occurred around 20:15 hrs in front of a food stand on Genip Lane, as the victims were buying porridge.
One resident said that he saw two suspicious vehicles, a Toyota AT 212 and a Toyota Allion pass by the shop and circle the area. He said that the two vehicles returned and the occupants opened fire as the cars drove by. Another resident said he noticed two other vehicles had blocked off the entrance of the street at the time of the shooting.

Meanwhile, Dawn Sampson, the aunt of the dead clothes vendor, said the gunmen were looking for her relative, who was the intended target of the gunmen. The woman said the police had arrested and questioned her son in relation to the rental of the house in John Street, Campbellville, where the arms and ammunition were found. On Thursday, the three men who were arrested at the house in Campbellville, Georgetown, last weekend, were charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They were denied bail and remanded to prison until February 14. The men were identified as Teon Alleyne, 30, of Soesdyke Highway, Andre Pollydore, 24, of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and Lloyd Roberts, 36, of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Further, Ms Sampson said after her son was held for the stipulated three days, “When he get loose the next thing I hear is that my nephew get shoot down. I believe the persons were hired to do the execution and my son was the one they want, not my nephew. They have my son as a big killer man, me ain’t know that I make a killer man, I living for Jesus and serving God and go to church, I can’t encourage my son to do wrong things, wrong is wrong,” Ms Sampson told the media.
The deceased mother Jean Adams said her son had moments before his death, informed her that he was heading out to get something to eat. She later heard several shots, but was not sure if they were gunshots. Her other son came to her with the sad news that “Zeggy” had been shot. She said that her son, who is a clothes vendor in the arcade, was scheduled to leave the country on Saturday.

The woman described her son as a hard-working individual, whom she said did not have issues with anyone. She added that he would often tell her about purchasing a car and building a house in the near future.
Investigators have indicated that the recent AK-47 find, the shooting at the Rio Night Club last year and at Club Privilege along with a recent high-speed chase on the East Coast of Demerara, are all interconnected.
