THE allegations of corruption made against the Bartica Town Council by Sherwyn Downer in the December 25, 2016 edition of Kaieteur News is something that needs to be investigated. This very same Town Council has been assigned the task of creating the first Green Town within Guyana. However, for sustainable development to occur, more than economic growth without the destruction of the environment is required. Development must be socially inclusive, whereby all persons in society will benefit from the development regardless of income, status, race, religion or political affiliation.
One must therefore question the ability of the Town Council to guide Bartica towards such development, given its alleged biased and corrupt dealings.
