THE families of 25-year-old Frank Deflorimonte Jr, also called “Junior”, of Plaisance, ECD and a middle-aged Indo-Guyanese man referred to as “Buck man” (only name given), of Barr Street Kitty, Georgetown are now mourning the loss of their loved ones who tragically lost their lives in a motorcycle accident on Rupert Craig Highway, East Coast Demerara (ECD) at around 21:15 hours on Sunday.Up to press time, no close relative or friend had identified the middle-aged man.
An eyewitness said, “The motorbike man (Deflorimonte) was speeding, and (he) run into the big man and all two of them pitch”.
Deflorimonte was reportedly heading west along the Rupert Craig Highway when he collided with the other individual, who was attempting to cross the road outside the Yokohama Car dealership at Sophia, Greater Georgetown. The man was apparently drunk, as he was staggering. Both men involved in the accident reportedly “pitched” some distance upon impact of the collision, one eyewitness said. They both reportedly died on the spot.
Deflorimonte was said to have been heading to the seawall with his friends, who were also riding motorcycles but were some distance ahead of him.
Arriving on the scene not too long after the accident, Junior’s father was visibly shaken upon seeing his son’s lifeless body lying in the middle of the road; and he wept uncontrollably as he knelt and checked in vain for a pulse. Not too long after, he spoke with the media and related that his son worked in the hinterland as a shopkeeper. He said he would often tell his son about the dangers of speeding, but he [Junior] would say that he does it “for fun.”
A few minutes later, the dead man’s sisters arrived on scene, and sat flat on the road as they wept over their brother’s lifeless body. “Junior! Junior! Come home with we now! Don’t leave we! I lef’ you home earlier. Come leh we go home now!” one of the two sisters wailed.
The body of the other man who died was left in the roadside bushes where he had been flung upon impact of the collision.
Just before 23:00hrs, a hearse arrived and collected the two bodies. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
