THE Spirit of Christmas came alive in the Ancient County of Berbice on Sunday when Mrs. Sita Nagamootoo and the Ralph Joseph Charity hosted a party for more than 250 children at Courtland Village, East Berbice Corentyne. The party was also graced with the presence of the Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo,
Public Security Minister, Khemraj Ramjattan and his wife, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin and MP Charandass Persaud. They all joined in distributing the gifts to the children.
The two hour long programme was spiced with music, dances, carols and food for the children who also had their faces painted and played games while rocking to the beat of the sweet melodies from the Guyana Police Force Band.
The party was held at the former home of Mrs Nagamootoo and the children who were feted came from the neighbouring communities of Fyrish/Gibraltar/Number 1/ and Courtland and also from the Port Mourant Roman Catholic Church and Church of the Nazarene.
In delivering brief remarks Mrs .Nagamootoo said Christmas is the time for kindness, generosity, warmth, love, peace and gifts and urged everyone to exhibit the qualities of Christmas not only at this time but throughout the year. She shared the story of the
“Scrooge” who was mean and did not realise until the ghost of Christmas showed him in his dream what will become of him if he continues to be the same way. She then urged everyone not to be the scrooge but be the person he became afterwards.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nagamootoo thanked the Ralph Joseph Charity for making the Christmas party an annual event to give back to the community and urged everyone to be thankful for whatever small mercies are given while noting that “brighter things are in store for Guyana.” Minster Ramjattan echoed similar
sentiments as the Prime Minister and urged everyone who is in a position to assist especially with spreading cheer to the less fortunate to do so.
