TORONTO, Canada — Victoria Park Cricket Club and Kaisoca Women’s Cricket Club shared the top honours when the Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) held its 36th annual gala presentation, dinner and dance at the elegant and picturesque Scarborough Convention Centre, Scarborough here last Saturday night.

On a night when several players, both juniors and seniors as well as women were awarded for their outstanding performances during an eventful 2016 season, Victoria Park were crowned the inaugural Elite League champions while Kaisoca captured the women’s championships, having dethroned Superstars who won the crown in its first year.
After ending the season with the most points and earning the Trophy Stall (Guyana) prize, Victoria Park ensured their efforts were not in vain as they also emerged as the Elite division playoff champs, thereby winning the Shiv Persaud of Primerica-sponsored trophy with their victory over Scarborough Cricket Club (SCC).

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards for the final went to Anand Erramilli (Victoria Park) and Zainul Uniya (SCC).
Not to be outdone, the Kaisoca women carted off the Caribbean Wave Restaurant-sponsored winners’ trophy after upstaging Superstars in the playoff final, after the latter had led the season points table which saw them claim the Norman Sue Bakery-sponsored trophy.
Kaisoca’s Chuntel Martin and Superstars’ Lorraine Kenton were the respective MVPs in the final, winning the Richard Ramlall- and Deo Samaroo-sponsored prizes.

The Premiere Division playoff champions Toronto Cricketers waltzed away with the Frank Faubert trophy, sponsored by Scarborough Misubishi, turning back the challenge of season points champions Islanders Cricket Club who had to be content with realtor Lakshman Srianganathan’s trophy. The MVPs were Harjeet Singh and Gusting Gibson.
Highland Creek B took top honours in the First division playoff final, winning the Richard Ramlall prize, sponsored by Caribbean Wave while the Conference A and B respective season winners were Armor Cricket Club and Knightly. They secured the IR Construction and Action Honda trophies.

The second division saw Kaieteur International Sports Club claim the Norman Sue Bakery playoff winners’ trophy while the season champs were Rangers in Conference A and Victoria Park in Conference B.
The SCA also reintroduced the T20 competition in the 2016 season with the various winners being Highland Creek A in the Richard Ramlall’s conference, Durham United Cricket Club in the Deo Samaroo while Janbaaz Cricket Club and Rangers stole the limelight in the Bisham Singh’s Conference One and Two respectively.
Individual awards for the Elite division went to Highland Creek’s Fahd Ali Khan for the most

runs (326) and Bawa’s Abid Roowala the most wickets (22). In the Premiere division, Kush Yadav of Toronto Cricketers registered the most runs (360) while Durham’s Fareed Mohamed claimed the most wickets (24).

In the first division, Armor’s Kamran Nazir had the unique distinction of slamming three centuries on his way to tallying the most runs (512) with Zakir Gosla of Star Cricket Club took the most wickets (25).
Scarborough Cricket Association’s Yunus Motara, who clobbered a top score of 175, led all scorers in the second division with 495 runs while Gagandeep Singh of Janbaaz was the top wicket-taker with 26 wickets.
In the women’s division, Kaisoca’s skipper Mahwish Khan topped with 202 runs while Superstars’ Lorraine Kenton led the bowling with 18 wickets.

Towfeeq Ahmed registered the most runs in the Under-17 division which saw Trushil Patel of Superstars take the most wickets while in the Under-15 it was Anoop Chima of Toronto Cricket Academy and Faheem Motara of SCA with the most runs and wickets respectively.
In the junior division Mihir Patel of Action Zone Cricket Academy and his teammate Aditiya Pandya stole the honours with the most runs and most wickets.
Trophies and medals, sponsored by Action Honda, were also presented to the SCA women’s participants, including MVPs Mahwish Khan and Chuntell Martin, best bowlers Natasha Springett and Lorraine Kenton.

The SCA also took the opportunity to honour its T20 representatives who were runners-up in the Ontario Cricket Association (OCA) tournament and the Under-19 squad who captured the OCA title with a comprehensive win over Ottawa.
