THE Guyana Defence Force have taken a commanding early lead in season two of the GFF-STAG Elite League after another vintage performance last Sunday at Camp Ayanganna ground where they drubbed Buxton United 4-0.
The Army continued their rich vein of goal-scoring form with another emphatic win that was facilitated by poor goalkeeping from Darren Marks, the Buxton custodian.

Delroy Fraser, like he did in the first game (20th minute), opened the scoring for the soldiers in the 9th minute then added another in the 20th minute. Eight minutes later, younger brother Delwin added his name to the scorers’ list for a comfortable 3-0 halftime advantage.
Last week’s hat-trick hero, Sherwyn Caesar netted the only goal of the second period as the Buxtonians gave a much improved performance after the interval. Caesar’s goal four minutes from full time makes him the leading goalscorer of the League with 4 goals.

After two rounds of matches (six) that have produced 23 goals, the Army are the only side with a perfect winning record and sit at the top of the 6-team table on 6 points. Fruta Conquerors, the only side not to concede a goal, are second on 4 points while Monedderlust FC on 3 points with a zero goal difference are ahead of Buxton United with a -3 goal difference and 3 points as well. Victoria Kings are second from the bottom on one point and Topp XX at the bottom without a point.
The Elite League will continue this coming Friday at the Tucville Community Centre ground with another double-header, featuring Kings versus Buxton in the first game at 18:00hrs and at 20:00hrs, Monedderlust tackle Conquerors.
