Alleyne rescues Pride with another half-century

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Opener Anthony Alleyne stroked his second straight half-century and fourth in first class cricket to lead a Barbados Pride rally against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, on the opening day of their second round game in the Regional Four-Day Championship yesterday. The left-hander, in only his 11th first class game, carved out a solid 88 as Pride, sent in at Queen’s Park Oval, battled to the close on 214 for seven.
Kenroy Williams chipped in with 46 batting at number six while opener Omar Phillips chipped in with 22.
Leg-spinner Imran Khan has been the best bowler with three for 49.
Alleyne and Phillips gave Pride a solid start, putting on 45 for the first wicket, to see them safely through the first hour.
However, Pride suffered a double blow in the last half-hour before lunch when Phillips was caught at third man by Jeremy Solozano off Imran Khan and Shamarh Brooks fell without scoring to pacer Marlon Richards.
On 66 for two at the break, Pride were boosted in the second session by a healthy 73-run, third-wicket stand between Alleyne and Test batsman Roston Chase who made 21.
All told, the 23-year-old Alleyne faced 201 deliveries in a shade under four hours at the crease and counted 12 fours while Chase consumed 54 balls and hit two fours and a six.
Chase perished in the third over after the drinks break, bowled by Imran Khan and captain Kevin Stoute followed him four overs later for three, lbw to Imran Khan at 141 for four.
On 155 for four at tea, Pride lost Alleyne in the third over after the break, caught by wicketkeeper Steven Katwaroo running around to short fine leg off off-spinner Jon-Russ Jagessar, with four runs added.
However, Williams and Justin Greaves, who made 17, put on a crucial 51 to bolster the innings in the final session.
Williams struck five fours in a knock that came from 103 balls in just over two hours, before falling to a catch at the wicket off left-arm spinner Yannick Ottley, five overs before the close.
