A FORMER solider of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was remanded to prison on Monday for several armed robberies committed at gas stations and supermarkets on East Coast Demerara.Uriel Mentore, 26, of Nelson Street, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara was remanded when he appeared before Sparendaam Magistrate, Zamilla Ally-Seepaul charged with four counts of armed robberies and two counts of attempted robbery.
Mentore and an accomplice along with an alleged accomplice used a motorcycle to commit a spate of robberies between October 19 and November 11, 2016, taking away in excess of $3.3M in cash and valuables.
The motorcycle and two full-faced protective helmets allegedly used during the commission of the crimes are in police custody.
Mentore’s girlfriend Fiona Smith of Paradise, East Coast Demerara was charged with receiving stolen article, property of Viscom’s Electronic.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on $35, 000 bail. She will return to Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on December 07.
