SIXTY-TWO expectant mothers in Linden, Region 10, have received hampers comprising clothing and other personalized items for their babies from members of the “Mommy and Me” organization founded by overseas-based Guyanese Jean Nurse.Making the presentation at the maternity ward and antenatal clinic of the Mackenzie Hospital Complex, Nurse
told the Guyana Chronicle that she has been involved in charitable work for over 25 years. “(I want to say) thank you to my co-workers in Guyana who assisted me; my friends in New York who assisted me. Most of these (items) are contributions from my co-workers and friends,” she said.
Ms. Nurse revealed that her charity project is usually undertaken every two years. She said the last distribution was done at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), and the next charity operation will take place at the Suddie Hospital on the Essequibo Coast.
Ms. Jennifer Nelson, a staff of the Mackenzie Hospital maternity ward, thanked Ms. Jean Nurse’s team for considering Linden mothers, and encouraged the mothers to take care of the items.
One mother, Samantha Bobb, expressing gratitude for the hamper, praised the initiative.
