Changes made to IGG squad… I have final say, says GABF president

PRESIDENT of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Nigel Hinds has made a final decision on the Internet Guiana Games basketball squad.The initial squad was selected by president of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), Junior Hercules after trials concluded on October 2.
However, the changes to the squad were highlighted in a press release by Hinds yesterday.
According to the release, the new squad includes Tahquille Johnson and Akinni Wilson of Linden, Stanton Rose, Damair Gladstone, Troy David, Dellon Wallace and Jamol Gilkes of Kwakwani. The Georgetown-based players include Nathan Saul, Roger John, Malcolm Powdar, Sabastian Luke, Timothy Thompson, Patrice Agrippa, Akil Vaughn, Jaleel Duke, Travis Belgrave and Terrence Daniels.
Berbice will see representation from Sherland Gillis, Neil Wills, Tafawa Daly and Ramone Fogenay.
The coaching staff includes head coach Junior Hercules with assistant coaches Naylon Loncke and Julian Haynes. Troy Greene has been named manager.
On the female side, the Georgetown-based players are Kesann Charles, Ruth Sanmoogan, Jada Mohan, Demelza Nicholas, Analisa Barclay and Ashley Khan. Kwakwani will see representation from Janelle Belle, Makeda Rogers and Kennesha Leacock with Saffiya Greene, Tandika Bouyea and Toshieka Arthur from Berbice.
The coaching staff comprises head coach Ann Gordon, assistant coaches Kirk Fraser and Dave Causway while Deborah Solomon has occupied the team manager position.
In a recent comment to the Guyana Chronicle, Hinds had stated: “Kwakwani has the best players in the country and there needs to be more Kwakwani representation in the squad and ultimately I have the final say.”
Guyana will be playing against Suriname on October 21, 22 and 23 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
