Eastman wins Hand-in-Hand feature 35-lap cycle race

In-form Hamza Eastman yesterday stopped the clock at one hour, 17 minutes 02.16 seconds to win the feature 35-lap event of the Hand-in-Hand Insurance sponsored 11-race cycle programme in the National Park.
After breaking from the main pack along with Christopher Griffith with 14 laps remaining, Eastman was unstoppable as he and Griffith controlled the pace of the race and together opened a lead of approximately 350 metres from the main chasing pack with 10 laps remaining and they continued to work in tandem.
Coming for the finish, Eastman passed Griffith with 60 metres remaining and won by a handsome margin.
Griffith finished second and Shaquille Agard outsprinted Paul DeNobrega for third while Michael Anthony was too good for Jamal John who took fifth and sixth respectively.
Of the eight prime prizes that were on offer during the event, Junior Niles,who broke from the pack from the start of the race,won the first two but was pulled back into the pack during the 10th lap and this allowed Stephano Husbands to claim third. John then took the fourth prime before Eastman outsprinted his rivals to take the sixth.
Eastman, while in company with Griffith at the head of affairs, claimed another two primes.
In other results, Dwayne Gibbs Jr won the 10-lap race for juveniles ahead of Adelaie Hodge and Mario Ellis respectively, while Jaikaran Sukhai won the five-lap race for veterans’ under 50 years of age.
Andrew Spencer was the winner of the five-lap race for veterans’ over 50 years of age.
The BMX boys 6-9 years old two-lap race was won by Alexander Leung. Second was Taried Barrington and finishing third was Jose Rodrigues.
The three-lap race for BMX boys 12-14 years of age was won by Taran Garbarran. Second was Marcus Mars.
Jeremiah Harrison won the BMX boys 9-12 years old two-lap race ahead of Zab Jones and Shay Sue-Hang respectively.
Prior to the presentation of prizes to the respective winners, race coordinator Hassan Mohamed thanked the participants and noted that they are all winners as without their participation, there would not have been a programme on yesterday.
Hand-in-Hand’s Marketing Coordinator,Andrea Jodhan-Khan,also thanked the participants for their presence and committed the company’s continued sponsorship of the event.
