THE finals of the Region Three Primary and Secondary schools football will be played today at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, beginning at 13:00hrs.The tournament which attracted ten teams in each division is being sponsored by the Ministry of Social Protection under the theme, “Try walking in my shoes”.
The opening act of today’s triple-header will bring together losing semifinalists of the Secondary division – West Demerara and Goed Fortuin.
This will be followed by the primary schools final when La Parfaite Harmony do battle with Den Amstel.
The final encounter to determine the Secondary Champs will kick off at 16:00hrs when Vreed-en-Hoop tackle Uitvlugt in what is expected to be a close affair. Vreed-en-Hoop had the better of Goed Fortuin in the semis, on their way to the final while Uitvlugt breezed past West Demerara in their match-up.
Coordinator of the tournament, Joel Gibson, told Chronicle Sport that “lots of talent were discovered, but the high level of discipline by all schools was the most satisfying feeling of this inaugural competition”.
Gibson added that it is his hope to make the tournament an annual event but to played during the August holiday. (Ras Wadada)
