A 63-year-old man of Richmond Village, Essequibo Coast, took his life on Friday morning by ingesting close to half a bottle of gramozone. The incident occurred at approximately 09:00hrs and according to the female caretaker who resides in the lower flat of the building, Nahai Persaud known as Patrick, spoke to her moments before the incident and told her that he would be relocating to Georgetown on Saturday to live permanently.
According to the woman, the elderly man also expressed dissatisfaction with his state of health as he suffers from Parkinson’s Disease and relies heavily on medication.
The man was found by his daughter and her husband and was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. It is believed that it was a pre-meditated act, since the man had made several telephone calls informing his relatives before consuming the deadly substance. He also left behind several suicide notes.
One neighbour described him as an easy-going person, but had complained about his deteriorating health condition.
