..George and Moore take sprint hat- trick

IT was a hat-trick of wins for both Olympians,Winston George and his teammate Alita Moore, as they each made a clean sweep of the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints for men and women respectively, to help lead the Police Progressive Athletics Club to its third consecutive win, and a successful defence of their championship title, as the Boyce and Jefford Track and Field Classic VII concluded last night at the MacKenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden.Entering the second day of competition with a marginal lead over the Guyana Defence Force, Police never let up and continued in the lead until the end,and in the process they amassed 395 points to the 329 points tallied by the GDF;thereby taking away the grand $1 million prize.

Police is now the first club to take three consecutive wins at the event, which is celebrating its seventh edition this year.
For their efforts, the GDF team took home $500, 000 and the second place trophy. The $300, 000 third place prize went to the Linden Combined team with 189 points, while Mercury Fast Laners rounded out the top four with 92 points;taking the $200, 000 cash prize and trophy.
Of the remaining teams, the overseas team finished fifth with 49 points, and Super Upcoming Runners team totalled 35 points, to finish in the cellar position.
In the individual wins, George was deservedly crowned the Champion Male, after racking up 30 points. Champion female title went to none other than Moore who also had 30 points.
George, who had won the 200m on Saturday, returned to stamp his authority on the men’s 100m finals with a time of 10.3 seconds, getting the better of Linden’s Compton Ceasar, who clocked 10.6 seconds, while Police’s Kevin Abbensetts clinched third place with 10.7 seconds.
Next it was on to the men’s 400m where George was up for serious competition from his team mate Winston Dummett.
Running out of lane one on the 300m track, George, the national men’s 400m record holder, almost seemed set for another easy win, until Dummett challenged him on the final straight for a dramatic end that saw George clocking 49.2 seconds and Dummett following with 49.6 seconds, rounding George’s hat-trick.
Matching win for win alongside George, Moore clocked 12.02 seconds in the 100m, and 59.1 seconds in the 400m. In the 100m, Linden’s Onasha Rogers was second (12.03s) and MFL’s Cassie Small took third (12:05s).

Earlier, the day started off with the international women’s 1500m where Grenada’s Kenisha Pascal dominated in a time of 5:03.00s, while second place was picked up by Police’s Joanna Archer in a time of 5:12.00s, while Trinidad’s Joanna Rogers came in third.
Cleveland Forde then claimed the men’s 1500m in a time of 4:10.00s, in a win for the GDF. GDF also copped third in the race after Odwin Tudor clocked 4:14.00s.Second place went to Police’s Quacy Morian (4:13.00s).
Forde and Tudor also contributed to GDF’s win in the men’s sprint medley relay. GDF also won the women’s sprint medley.
In the field events, GDF’s Natrena Hooper beat Linden’s Chantoba Bright into second place,after she covered 11.85m and Bright could only make it to 11.53m.
